Library Card Sign Up Month is celebrated every September as a nationwide reminder of just how powerful, and accessible a library card truly is. The month encourages families, students, and community members to sign up for a card and explore the wide range of resources their local library provides at no cost.
Historically, Library Card Sign Up Month began in 1987 by the American Library Association (ALA) to emphasize the library card as one of the most important school supplies. Now, thousands of libraries participate in highlighting everything a library card unlocks.
This year's theme is "A Library Card Hits All the Right Notes" with Grammy Award winning musical artist Laufey as the honorary chair.
As we approach and enter September this year, I invite you to sign up for a library card if you don't have one or come back to visit and renew your card in order to experience all the lifelong learning, creativity, and community that a simple library card makes possible.
